Native to Peru, the Maca plant is a cruciferous vegetable from the carrot, radish and parsnip family. It has been cultivated and used by the Peruvians for several thousand years, both as a foodstuff and also for its medicinal properties. This Maca is of the highest quality, grown in the Andes and organically certified by the Dutch body SKAL. To ensure it retains all of it's potency, this Maca is carefully dried and powdered. This also makes it easy to use.

Protein rich, amazing amino acid profile, B Vitamins, minerals including magnesium potassium and calcium, fatty acids including 2 essential fatty acids.

Maca supports the endocrine system thus increasing immune function. Alongside prescribing dietary changes and other supplements and techniques, I have found Maca to be particularly effective in increasing energy levels, regulating blood sugar, increasing libido, alleviating menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats and has been used as a symptom free alternative to HRT. It can help to regulate menstrual cycles.
Maca is an adaptogen, which, as it sounds, helps the body adapt to its environment, helping maintain homeostasis the body's natural balance.
The client would find the dosage right for them. I initially suggest 2 heaped teaspoons.

Stamina, Vitality & Endurance

Maca is a natural energizer, both mentally and physically, due to its mineral and alkaloidal content. It can boost energy levels, and is being used as an adjuvant therapy for chronic fatigue. Maca is a powerful tonic that improves physical output in a non-specific way. It reinforces the immune system and increases brain capability, generally improving bodily functions. Its effects are appropriate to the age and sex of the person using it. It has been shown to revitalize men and women of middle and older age both mentally and physically.

Libido, Sexual Function & Fertility

Maca is well known for its ability to increase fertility and has long been used by couples seeking to conceive. Soon after the Spanish conquest in South America, the Spaniards found their livestock were reproducing poorly in the Andean highlands. Local Indians recommended feeding the animals on Maca. The results were so notable that in-depth reports were written on Maca in Spanish chronicles.

During the height of the Incan empire, legend has it that the Inca warriors would consume Maca before entering into battle, which would make them fiercely strong. However after conquering a city, the Incan soldiers were forbidden to use Maca, to protect the conquered women from their powerful sexual impulses.

Maca is often marketed as 'Herbal Viagra'. Certainly most men find that when they have a heaped tablespoon or so every day, their sexual appetite is increased and they wake up 'ready for action' every morning.

Period Pains, Menstruation, Menopausal Symptoms

Traditionally women in the Andes have used Maca to help ease period pains and regulate menstruation. It contains four alkaloids, which nourish the endocrine glands and is a real source of natural vegetal hormones which can help relieve menopausal symptoms such as: tiredness, hot flushes, vaginal dryness, memory disorder, osteoporosis and lowered libido. Maca helps to balance the hormonal system by encouraging the body to produce the hormones it needs.
